ABOUT OUR SHEEP

Paradise Valley Farm has been breeding sheep for over 10 years and we have fallen in love with the breeds that we have: Harlequin Sheep, Cheviot Sheep, and Shetland Sheep. All three breeds are miniature sheep, which makes them the perfect sheep for small farms, 4-H projects, and animal lovers. We strive to provide small, colorful, friendly sheep. Paradise Valley Farm is home to the American Miniature Harlequin Sheep Registry, as well as members of the North American Shetland Sheep-Breeders Association and the Miniature Cheviot Sheep Breeders Cooperative.

Olde English "Babydoll" Southdown Sheep:

"Babydoll" Sheep originated from England. Known for their small size, fuzzy faces, and laid back personalities, this breed of sheep makes an ideal pet. Their most well known feature is their "teddy bear" faces that bring a smile to everyone! We do not breed purebred "Babydoll" Sheep anymore, but instead cross breed them to Harlequin Sheep to further improve that breed and to help it grow.

Cheviot Sheep:

Cheviot Sheep are one of our smallest breeds, and are known for their clean faces, small build, and hardiness. Cheviot Sheep come in black and white, but most of our babies are solid white. They have been around for many years and originated in Britain and have been well known for the superior fiber from their wool. Over the years, Cheviot Sheep have been introduced to a variety conditions making them the an ideal sheep because of their superb ability to adapt to new situations. Being naturally polled and having a wonderful personality makes these sheep perfect for any farm! Cheviot Sheep are registered with the Miniature Cheviot Sheep Breeders Cooperative.

"Shetliot" Sheep:

"Shetliot" Sheep are a cross between Cheviot and Shetland Sheep. Both parent breeds are known for their wonderful personalities, small build, and hardiness. "Shetliot" Sheep are known for having incredible, multicolored fiber. These sheep are naturally polled, and are known for being friendly and calm. "Shetliot" Sheep are not able to be registered and only sold as pets. They are ideal for first time sheep owners, small flocks, and family projects.

Harlequin Sheep:

These are the largest breed of our miniature sheep. They are known for their color, laid back personality, small build, and hardiness. These sheep are naturally polled (hornless) and are known to have blue eyes. Harlequin Sheep originated in the United States and Paradise Valley Farm is home to the American Miniature Harlequin Sheep Registry. The Harlequin sheep are still a young breed and as home of the registry, we strive to not only preserve this breed, but to also improve it.

Shetland Sheep:

Shetlands are one of our smallest breeds, known for their long, colorful wool and small builds. Their small build and calm personalities makes them an ideal sheep for small flocks. Shetland Sheep date back thousands of years and are believed to have originated in the Shetland Islands with Viking settlers. Despite their small size, Shetland Sheep have maintained their natural hardiness, adaptability, and longevity throughout the years. Paradise Valley Farm is breeding for colorful, polled sheep. Shetland Sheep are registered with the North American Shetland Sheep-Breeders Association.
